EBL in Peru
First project completed
Peruvian Amazon
We recently completed solar energy installations for indigenous communities in the Peruvian Amazon. This was EBL's first foray into Peru!

This was part of a collaborative effort between EBL, Amazon Watch and FECONAU (Federation of Native Communities of Ucayali and Affluents, a local NGO that has been working to conserve the land, culture, and resources of indigenous peoples in the Amazon region) to provide off-grid solar power and satellite internet service to fifteen different Shipibo-Konibo and Asháninka communities in the Amazon Basin in Peru, improving important services such as communication, healthcare, education, and emergency response capabilities by bridging the technical gap.

Over 700 families (4,000 people) now have access to reliable power and internet—transforming the way they communicate, protect their land, and grow their communities.
The 15 communities we just supported with solar energy and communication systems face growing risks driven by various extractive and criminal activities on their lands, including illegal logging and animal trafficking. They have also been the victims of direct threats and violence. The solar+satellite systems will enable them to communicate more effectively with each other in defending their territory from illegal encroachment.
