SHFT
Actor/filmmaker Adrian Grenier and film producer Peter Glatzer founded SHFT after creating the TV show ALTER ECO for Discovery’s Planet Green. With SHFT.COM, they set out to build a platform that uses media to curate the myriad sustainable choices now available to us and to highlight the cultural shift taking place. Their goal is to gently nudge the idea of sustainability into pop culture.
SHFT.COM offers original video series, curated shopping, and a host of resources that speak to a modern, inspirational, eco- conscious lifestyle. Their first original series, LIGHTEN UP, followed bands as they toured while reducing their carbon footprint and mitigating waste. It reached over 8 Million viewers. Off line, SHFT creates pop up art galleries, with a curatorial theme of man’s relationship to his environment. ZEEC: Zambezi Environmental Education Camp
The Zambezi Environmental Education Camp (ZEEC) is located along the Zambezi River near Sioma in the Western Province of Zambia. It offers students from Europe and North America a unique opportunity to observe and experience a culture (Lozi) with strong, functioning traditions operating on a subsistence economy. During their stay, students also learn about local environmental issues including slash/burn agriculture, hunting/poaching, timber exploitation, the challenge of maintaining an unpolluted river and communities/population in decline. Students may also participate in community action service projects.
ZEEC is a member of the Wildlife and Conservation Society of Zambia, and is registered as a non-profit NGO. It is supported by the Watoto Charitable Trust.
ZEEC was cofounded by John and Alison Curtis, who have been leading student trips annually to environmental education centers in Kenya and Zambia since 1994. John was previously headmaster of the International Schools of Bern and Lausanne and The Winter Term in Lenk, Switzerland. Previously, Alison was Director of Camp Lenk and the Alpine Environmental Education Center and Chair of the Environmental Education Committee of the European Council of International Schools. She is also the coordinator of several grassroots health and education projects in Kenya. ZEEC’s Program Director is Mwitumwa M. Joe, from Senanga, Zambia.
