The Solar Light Charger
The Pharox Solar Kit is a self-contained power and lighting solution. It is a product of Lemnis Lighting, a leader in sustainable lighting. Engineered for off-grid applications in Africa, the compact unit combines a small solar panel, a sealed lead-acid battery, a light of 3 LED lamps, and a USB port with cable adapters to charge a variety of mobile devices. The World Bank awarded Lemnis its top prize in the “Lighting Africa Development Marketplace Competition 2008” for the quality of the Lemnis kits for off-grid Africa. The kit to be deployed is the next generation model.
Neither the solar panel (crystalline silicon) nor the LED contains toxic materials. The battery can last 3-5 years before replacement and is recyclable in Africa.
The kits are easily installed. The lamp can hang from the ceiling or be placed on its pedestal to become a reading light. One kit can light a small room similar in size to most Zambian rural dwellings. Alternatively, the kits can remain portable and be shared among multiple families.
