Georgia McIntosh – Executive Director
Prior to joining Empowered by Light, she served over 13 years as Vice President of Communications at Earthjustice, the U.S.-based, nonprofit legal organization, representing communities in their right to a healthy environment. In addition to her environmental background, Georgia previously had a successful career for over a decade working at Canadian and U.S. marketing firms with corporate, government, and nonprofit clients. Georgia is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Her passion for environmental and indigenous issues stems from her roots in Vancouver, Canada. She has a deep belief in co-powering with communities to further their development and in demonstrating the potential in leapfrogging fossil fuel infrastructure development. She lives just outside San Francisco with her husband and two daughters.
Moira Hanes – Co-Founder & Board Chair
Moira is currently serving as the interim executive director of the foundation. In addition, she founded and manages a blog on health, wellness, and nutrition, and designed, implemented and continues to manage a school-wide waste reduction program. She has supported several Bay Area-based non-profits including WildAid, the Marine Mammal Center and Global Green’s San Francisco Committee. Previously, Moira worked more than a decade in corporate communications and government and community relations roles for a Fortune 50 company. She has nearly 20 years combined experience serving on the boards of non-profits.
Marco Krapels – Co-Founder
Marco is an executive vice president at SolarCity, responsible for the company’s global strategy. Marco is also a co-founder of The Solutions Project, a U.S.-based non-profit focused on accelerating the transition to a 100% renewable energy economy. Previously, Marco was an executive vice president with Rabobank, where he initiated notable sustainability efforts, including a Rabobank solar/electric car project featured in the New York Times. Marco is a frequent panel speaker at renewable energy forums, and most recently co-produced Leonardo DiCaprio’s and Fisher Steven’s new film, “Before the Flood.”
Gianluca Signorelli – Co-Founder
Gianluca focuses on the growth of clean energy infrastructure by financing residential, commercial, and utility-scale clean energy systems at NRG Energy. Previously, he led clean energy finance at Rabobank, N.A., the U.S. commercial arm of the Rabobank group. Prior to that, he was an economist at the U.S. Treasury Department working to advance economic relations and development with emerging market and low-income nations in Asia and Latin America. He attended Stanford University (BA), Johns Hopkins University SAIS (MA), and Wharton (MBA).
Manuel Offenberg – Board Member
Manuel currently works as a Security Architect at Seagate Technology. Previously he served as Chief Technology Officer at Bizily, a San Francisco based startup for SaaS based customer development. Before that he co-founded StartupSquare, an online service for starting entrepreneurs, and held the position as Director of Security Engineering at Seagate. At Seagate, Manuel was instrumental in the launch of the world’s first self encrypting hard drive. Manuel holds a Masters degree from the University of Groningen, Netherlands, is married, and lives in San Francisco.
Patrick Crane – Board Member
Patrick is a 16-year marketing veteran, building hi-tech businesses and brands on three continents. Born and raised in the UK, Patrick started at Vodafone after graduating from Huddersfield University. Before leaving the UK, Patrick co-founded the Laura Crane Trust to fund research into teenage cancer. He then joined Vodafone Australia where he led the launch of Australia’s first wireless internet service, after which he joined the Global Product team at Vodafone US, subsequently earning an MBA at Henley Management College. In 2003, Patrick joined Yahoo! leading various marketing divisions, until making the jump to the startup world in 2007 when he joined LinkedIn as Chief Marketing Officer. Patrick led marketing and communications for four of LinkedIn’s hyper-growth years, helping LinkedIn expand around the world and ultimately become a multi-billion dollar public company. Patrick now leads the Network Group at Sungevity, encompassing Marketing, Sales, Remote Solar Design, and Product Management. Patrick lives with his wife and two children in Costa Rica.
Ellen Morris, Ph.D. – Board Member
Ellen is the President and Founder of Sustainable Energy Solutions a professional services company that promotes the increased use and deployment of clean energy technologies and services as a means to support economic development and reduce poverty in developing countries. Ellen is also the Director of the academic programs on International Energy Management and Policy and Sustainable Energy Policy at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. In 2008, she founded Arc Finance, an organization that promotes and expands access to end-user finance for modern energy. Since 1996, Ellen has been a senior consultant for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on sustainable energy. She has previously worked for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. She is a member of numerous organizations including the Board of Directors of Arc Finance; the United Nations Foundation Energy Access Practitioner Network, United Nations Development Programme’s External Advisory Group; the Advisory Board of Earthspark International; and the Advisory Board of Simpa Networks. Ellen has a Ph.D. in Geological Oceanography and began her career as an Exploration Geophysicist in the oil and gas sector.
Michael Grossman – Board Member
As Director of Liquid Assets, Michael is responsible for lending and fixed income investing at New Island Capital. Previously, Michael managed Calvert Foundation’s international impact investing portfolio and was a Senior Advisor to McKinsey & Company’s Social Sector Office focused on financial inclusion and inclusive agriculture development. Michael was Managing Director and Citigroup Country Officer in Tunisia, where he was responsible for day-to-day management of Citibank’s commercial and retail operations. In addition, he was Managing Director and Citigroup Country Officer in Dakar, Senegal, and Senior Operations Officer in Casablanca, Morocco. Michael helped create Citibank’s West African regional corporate finance/capital markets business based in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. Michael holds an MS in Finance from MIT Sloan School of Management and a BS from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. Michael is a Chevalier in Senegal’s National Order of the Lion.
